FAQ’S & LEGAL
Is Sports Massage Therapy only for sports people and / or sporting injuries?
Sports massage is not just for sports people. Desk work and sedentary life have also been shown to create muscle tension and poor posture. Regular sports massage treatments can help reduce this. Whilst we talk about “sport”, and indeed Sports Massage is a designated form of massage, I am more an advocate of promoting the word “activity”. Many clients inform me that they don’t exercise or undertake sports. However being active can involve things such as walking the dog, and people may undertake more activity than they think.
What's the difference between Sports Massage and other types of massage?
There are over numerous types of massage techniques and types, all treating different needs and providing various benefits. Sports Massage is a form of deep tissue massage which applies deep pressure to the muscles, focusing on specific trouble points. When you have muscular tension, want something a bit deeper than a traditional massage or have more specific ailments, more attentive techniques such as deep tissue massage are required. Varying massage pressure can be applied throughout mthe massage treatment and is always in dynamic consultation with the clients needs.
What is the procedure at the initial appointment?
All new clients receive a full consultation prior to any treatment application commencing. This is not only a lawful requirement, but also enable the therapist to record contact data, obtain information regarding the clients presenting issue, establish subjective history about the client ( previous injuries / surgery etc.) and any relevant medical information. Some useful information you may need to bring are: GP contact details, medication details and sufficient information for a medical history to be completed. The consultation phase should inform and guide the therapist to consider the appropriate treatment for the individual.
How do I know if my issue requires a Sports Massage Therapist, Chiropractor or Osteopath?
I often advise clients that muscular and soft tissue is often a good place to start. It may of course be the case that you have previously had treatments with an alternative therapist (Osteopath / Chiropractor). Both Deep Tissue and Sports Massage are considered to be very effective when combined with other treatments and in most cases does lead to an accelerated recovery, if the treatments are injury related. What you are ensured with Diamond Health & Fitness is that you will receive the most professional advice at consultation stage. Should an issue be identified outside of my professional scope this will be relayed to you and referral made.
How do I book onto any of the group functional training sessions?
It is not necessary to contact us and book onto any sessions. We have always gone with a “turn up and exercise” policy and feel that works for people. Whilst we have to set for unknown numbers, our view is that non booking removes the stress for people. People’s plans often change and we are keen to avoid people feeling pressured in cancelling should they need to. We would rather people come and join us when they feel ready to and when it fits in with their schedules.
